A Texas trooper who confronted South Carolina’s Nyck Harbor after the player’s touchdown on Saturday was sent home from the game, according to the state’s Department of Public Safety.

Harbor scored on an 80-yard reception in the second quarter and entered the tunnel after the score, appearing to walk off a leg injury. As he and three of his teammates, including running back Oscar Adaway III, were walking back to the field, the trooper walked in between Harbor and Adaway and bumped into them.

The trooper pointed at Harbor and Adaway, appearing to admonish them. Harbor was quickly pushed away by a teammate as they continued make their way towards the field.

The video was widely shared on social media with many commenting on it, including LeBron James.

“That A&M cop needs to suspended! That was premeditated and corny AF!! . He went out his way to start some shit. Do better man,” wrote James on X.

The Texas Department of Public Safety Department, which employs the trooper, issued a statement saying he had been sent home from Kyle Field, Texas A&M’s home stadium.

“Our Office of Inspector General is also aware of the incident and will be further looking into the matter. No additional information will be released at this time,” the statement read.

South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer said he was pleased action had been taken against the trooper.

“Got a ton of respect for the people here in College Station,” Beamer said after the game. “They’re just a first-class operation, everybody. From a game operation standpoint, they really do a great job. They’re first-class people, so appreciate them handling that the right way, sending [the trooper] home.”

Texas A&M rallied from 27 points down to complete a remarkable 31-30 win over South Carolina to remain undefeated this season. Harbor left the game in the fourth quarter after sustaining a suspected chest injury when another player landed on him while he made a catch. Beamer said the 20-year-old was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure accompanied by his father Jean, a former professional soccer player who won 15 caps for the US men’s national team.

Nyck Harbor won the 2023 Franklin D Watkins Memorial Award, a prize which honors African American high schoolers who excel in athletics, academics and charity work. Aside from his football career, Harbor has won national titles in track, volunteered at a soup kitchen and worked with Generosity Global, which campaigns to improve women’s health in Africa. Harbor is majoring in public health and has been on the SEC Academic Honor Roll two years in succession.
