Crystal Palace v Liverpool, Atlético v Real Madrid and more: clockwatch – live

City are back in front. Matheus Nunes walloped a close-range volley into the net after Erling Haaland fought to head a far-post cross back into the danger area.
Championship Adam Armstrong has given Southampton a surprise lead against the leaders Middlesbrough, oh yes he has.

51 min: Crystal Palace 1-0 Liverpool A Palace victory today would increase speculation about Oliver Glasner replacing Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford. Anyone know what system he plays?
Sean Longstaff’s first goal for Leeds has put them in front at Elland Road! He took it well too, adjusting his feet to slash a bouncing ball into the net from 17 yards.
Home form was always going to be crucial for the promoted clubs; if it stays like this Leeds will have seven points from three games.

As things stand, Hearts are top of the league. They lead Falkirk 3-0 while Celtic are being held 0-0 by Hibernian.
54 min: Chelsea 1-0 Brighton Yep, Trevoh Chalobah has been sent off after dogsoing Diego Gomez. That’s right: dogso, verb.
Chelsea have been much the better team but now they’re down to 10 men.
51 min: Chelsea 1-0 Brighton There’s a VAR check for a possible red card after a challenge by Trevoh Chalobah on Diego Gomez.
Another twist in a fascinating Madrid derby: Alexander Sorloth has equalised for the home side with an excellent header.
We’ve seen this film before. Real have come from behind to lead through Arda Guler, who made the equaliser for Kylian Mbappe and has just finished expertly from Vinicius Jr’s cross. What a lovely footballer he is, and he’s still only 20.
45+5 min: Crystal Palace 1-0 Liverpool Jean-Philippe Mateta has hit the post with a marvellous long-range effort. It sounds like Palace have been quite magnificent in the first half.
45+3 min: Leeds 1-1 Bournemouth “While I’m absolutely delighted to see Antoine Semenyo still at Bournemouth, I’m also completely baffled as to why he is,” writes Charlie Robinson. “He’s just such a delight to watch running at opponents, and I honestly can’t think of a Premier League player who puts a bigger smile on my face.
“Having kept an eye on the summer’s transfer rumours, I can’t remember him being seriously linked with anyone either. If any Premier League player was due a £50-odd million move this summer, it was him. Maybe he just adores Bournemouth pier? To be fair, it’s a cracker, isn’t it?”
Whether we’re talking teams or piers, Clockwatch journalists are strictly impartial.
A terrific equaliser for Real in the Madrid derby. After some short passing on the right, Arda Guler opened Atletico up with a beautiful angled pass to put Kylian Mbappe through on goal. I shan’t insult your intelligence by telling you what happened next.
It’s 27 September 1989. No really folks, it is!
“I was at that Celtic v Partizan game (3.24pm) at the old Celtic Park,” writes Simon McMahon. “Gordan Petrić, who five years later was an integral part of the first Dundee United side to win the Scottish Cup, and who also spent a season at Crystal Palace, played as a 20-year-old for Partizan, who were managed that night by Ivan Golac, who was also manager at Tannadice when United beat Rangers in 1994 to lift the Scottish Cup with Petrić in the side.”

40 min Crystal Palace 1-0 Liverpool Ibrahima Konate has missed a good headed chance for Liverpool, it says here.
Who knew? Jaidon Anthony has equalised for Burnley at the Etihad with a deflected shot from Quilindschy Hartman’s low cross.
Joe Rodon equalises for Leeds with a strong header from a corner. It looked like the keeper Petrovic might have done better, but I’d like to see a replay before calling him useless in a public forum.

Robin Le Normand gives Atletico the lead in the Madrid derby! Gio Simeone crossed from the right and Le Normand got up early to power a header past Thibaut Courtis from eight yards. Good goal.
30 min: Crystal Palace 1-0 Liverpool “No need to worry yet,” says Matt Dony. “Remember the 7-0 hammering Liverpool administered at Palace a year or two ago. Ah, hang on, it was nearly 5 years ago!! 5 years! Next thing, you’ll be telling me Crystanbul was over 11 years ago!”
Leeds have missed some good chances at Elland Road, and Antoine Semenyo has punished them with his fourth league goal of the season. It was a clever free-kick, driven deliberately under the wall and through the keeper. Leeds did have a man lying down as a draught excluder but Semenyo missed him out.
26 min: Crystal Palace 1-0 Liverpool Alisson has made two excellent saves to deny Munoz and Mateta. On Soccer Saturday, Michael Dawson says Liverpool are “all over the place.”
Enzo Fernandez gives Chelsea a richly deserved lead, hanging in the air to head Reece James’ deflected cross into the net from close range.
On this day in 1989… Celtic go out of Europe after a nine-goal thriller.
Premier League latest
4 min: Atletico Madrid 0-0 Real Madrid The Madrid derby is under way as well.
16 min: Crystal Palace 1-0 Liverpool There was a six-minute delay at Selhurst Park, reportedly because of a medical emergency in the crowd.
Phil Foden’s return to form continues with an early goal at the Etihad. This one was a simple finish after a fine save from Martin Dubravka to deny Jeremy Doku.
Scratch that, it’s now been given as an own goal by Maxime Esteve. Will Phil Foden ever recapture his old form?
Palace strike first at Selhurst Park. A corner is inadvertently headed towards his own goal by Ryan Gravenberch, under pressure from Marc Guehi, and Ismaila Sarr scores from three yards.
Arne Slot has been booked for excessive use of the mouth; he thought the original corner was erroneously awarded.
It’s all happening in the Premier League. These are the latest scores.
Thanks Billy, hello everyone. Kick-off is a couple of minutes away, which is just enough time to read Dave Hytner’s report from Brentford.
Right, the teams are walking out around the grounds. Rob Smyth has also emerged from the tunnel, mascot in hand, to take over from me for when the whistle blows.
There was an eye-catching result in the WSL this lunchtime as Aston Villa’s Lucy Parker struck late at the Emirates. Suzanne Wrack’s report is here:
A reminder of the 3pm kick-offs in the Premier League:
Chelsea v Brighton
Crystal Palace v Liverpool
Leeds v Bournemouth
Manchester City v Burnley
We’ll be getting under way in about 10 minutes’ time!
Sid Lowe is at the Metropolitano for today’s Madrid derby. This week he’s been writing about Julián Alvarez, Atlético’s hat-trick hero against Rayo Vallecano on Wednesday:
Asked how Alvarez could score a goal like the winner against Rayo, Simeone’s explanation was simple: “Because he’s very good.” When it was suggested that it had been Lionel Messi-like, he replied: “Well, he’s Julián Alvarez.” There was more, he knew; this was about the person as well as the player. “He is the best player we have got,” the coach said.
Alexander Isak is making his first Premier League start for Liverpool at Selhurst Park. Marc Guéhi is charged with stopping him when, really, he might have expected to be lining up alongside him today:
It speaks volumes for Guéhi’s professionalism that he has picked up where he left off at Palace having already mentally prepared to become a Liverpool player. The first part of his medical had been completed in London on deadline day and a private jet was standing by to take him to Merseyside.

Mathias Jensen seals the points for Keith Andrews and Brentford to hand Ruben Amorim that familiar feeling of defeat at Manchester United.
Igor Thiago’s first-half double put Brentford on their way before Benjamin Sesko’s first United goal gave them some hope.
Nathan Collins was penalised for pulling back the returning Bryan Mbeumo in the box but Bruno Fernandes’s penalty was saved by Caoimhin Kelleher. Jensen’s emphatic finish came in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
There is no Cole Palmer for Chelsea today. He’s one of a number of injury absentees Enzo Maresca is having to deal with amid a dip in results:
On the treatment table:
Palmer (groin)
Adarabioyo (calf)
Fofana (concussion)
Colwill (knee)
Essugo (thigh)
Delap (hamstring)
Kyle Walker’s awkward departure from Manchester City doesn’t seem to have affected Pep Guardiola’s opinion of him:
I don’t judge one behaviour over a short period of time. He was unbelievable. One of the greatest full-backs ever. I slept like a baby for the games with Kyle there.
There are eight minutes of stoppage time at Brentford, who still lead Manchester United 2-1 after Bruno Fernandes’s missed penalty. You can join Barry Glendenning for any late drama:
